Our Process
We don't guess. We design collaboratively so you can see exactly what you're getting before any wood is cut.
Custom furniture is a significant investment—in money, time, and trust. Our process is designed to eliminate uncertainty and give you complete confidence that the final piece will be exactly what you envisioned.
Here's how we work together:
Initial Consultation (Free)
Before any commitment, we'll have a conversation about your project—either by phone, video call, or in person.
- The problem you're trying to solve (not just what you want to buy, but why)
- Your space, lifestyle, and functional requirements
- Design inspiration and aesthetic preferences
- Materials, finishes, and construction approach
- Ballpark pricing based on project scope and complexity
This conversation ensures we're aligned on expectations—both what's possible and what it will cost—before you invest anything. If the project isn't a good fit for either of us, we'll tell you honestly and part ways respectfully.
Timeline: 15-30 minutes
Collaborative Design Session
This is where your project truly takes shape. The design session is a collaborative exploration where we translate your vision into a concrete, buildable plan.
- Detailed measurements and site assessment (if applicable)
- In-depth discussion of functionality, ergonomics, and aesthetics
- Material selection and finish options with samples you can take home
- Design concepts and sketches
- 3D digital renderings showing your piece from multiple angles
- Unlimited design revisions until you're completely satisfied
- Detailed quote for final project cost
Design work requires significant time and expertise. The $750 retainer ensures we're both committed to the process and allows us to dedicate focused attention to getting every detail right. This retainer is fully credited toward your final project cost.
Timeline: 1-2 weeks for initial renderings; revisions as needed
Construction & Craftsmanship
With the design locked in, we begin building your piece using time-honored techniques and premium materials.
- Construction begins with careful material selection and preparation
- Periodic photo updates so you can see progress
- Quality control at every stage—joinery, finish, assembly
- Final inspection before delivery
- Solid hardwood construction (no veneers or particle board)
- Traditional joinery methods for strength and longevity
- Hand-applied finishes with multiple coats
Quality takes time, and we never rush craftsmanship to meet arbitrary deadlines.
Timeline: Typically 8-16 weeks depending on project complexity and current queue
Delivery & Final Payment
Your piece is complete. Now it's time to bring it home.
- We'll coordinate delivery timing with you
- For large pieces or built-ins, we handle installation and any final adjustments
- Final walkthrough to ensure everything is perfect
- Remaining balance due upon delivery
- Care instructions and maintenance guidance provided
If anything isn't exactly right, we'll make it right. Your satisfaction is non-negotiable.
What Our Clients Say
"Found Ryan on a google search. I took a chance, as had previously worked with a different woodworker that was too busy for my project. We are very glad that we took that chance, as Ryan built us the most beautiful shelving for our wine cellar. Honestly amazing and with a great attention to detail. He is very responsive to messages, and is particular about getting things exactly as you want them. Don’t hesitate to work with Ryan. You won’t regret it."
